Dietary Myths Debunked

You might want to find something to hold onto.  We’re about to shake the dietary world.  The groundbreaking news is many decades old, but will probably strike you as revolutionary.  Nearly everything you’ve ever learned about the relationship between fitness, Diet Plans, and exercise is completely wrong.  We’ll address a few common myths, and hopefully set the health record straight.

Many dieters ask, “what is the best exercise to lose weight?”  Not only is there not a best exercise to lose weight, there is really no exercise that will help you lose weight.  You read right – exercise has never been shown to correlate directly with fat loss.  While you should certainly exercise frequently to improve strength, conditioning, endurance, balance, athleticism, and overall fitness, exercise doesn’t really have any influence on your ability to lose weight.

That’s because the familiar “calorie balance” – the notion that you’ll lose weight if you “burn” more calories than you consume – is completely unrelated to whether or not you store or lose fat.  So if you’re looking for the quickest way to lose weight, look no further than your dinner table.  The key to fat loss is all in what you put in your mouth, and what you should leave on your plate.

Sound a bit mysterious?  It’s actually very simple, though not many people will be happy to hear the century-old science:  starch and sugar make you store fat.  Period.  They do this through the action of a hormone called insulin, which instructs the fat cells in your body to store fat as triglycerides.  Because blood sugar is toxic in high levels, insulin is secreted in the presence of elevated blood glucose.  Insulin signals your muscle cells to burn glucose instead of the fatty acids they’re built to burn for energy.  Consequently, starch and sugar lead directly to fat storage, and an adverse condition that is now known as metabolic syndrome.  Drop starch and sugar, and you’ll drop fat, too.
